MCI STUDENT ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS AND ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY 2025-2026
Participation on a school team is contingent upon the following:
1. The student-athlete is expected to adhere to Malvern CI’s code of conduct, in all areas of the school (including all classes and team activities).
2. Students may only participate on ONE team/sport per season.
3. Students must pay the MCI Student Activity Fee to play on a team. If financial hardship exists, student activity fee may be waived.
4. The student-athlete must attend all classes on the day of the event or lose the right to participate that day.
5. The student-athlete must be a full time student at Malvern CI (minimum 3 courses in a semester).
6. The student must be passing 2/3 or 3/4 courses, “as of the last formal reporting period”, to be eligible. If the student is failing MORE THAN ONE class (or is failing one double credit class), the student is academically ineligible.
7. If the student is academically ineligible, the coach/staff advisor or any caring adult may apply to the Eligibility Committee. This process can ONLY be initiated by the coach/staff advisor or the caring adult, not the student.
8. If the application is successful, the player may remain on the team/group, BUT the student and parent/guardian must agree to the conditions as set out by the Eligibility Committee.
a)Examples of possible conditions:
i) the student cannot miss any classes for which they are failing until passing grades are achieved and/or the Eligibility Committee approves.
ii)the athlete may be required to use a daily tracking sheet to monitor attendance, punctuality, and work completion
iii)The student must maintain satisfactory attendance, punctuality, and responsible behaviour to remain eligible.
c)All marks will be periodically checked by the Eligibility Committee* and both the coach/staff advisor and the student will be informed if the student is not eligible to participate in the activity.
