Grade 4 - The School of Rock Project
The School of Rock proposal:
Read the the School of Rock project below and come up with an idea for a project on any aspect of our rock unit! Write your proposal in a google doc and turn it in in the classroom. You need to provide details about:
What topic you will explore
How you will present it (video, slideshow, google doc)
What two websites or books you will get your information from
Once I approve your proposal you can start your project!
The Project:
Create a presentation exploring any topic we have covered or you would like to learn more about in our Rocks and Minerals Unit!
This is an open presentation project. That means you can choose how you present it. Some examples of project ideas are below.
The requirements for the project are:
Your project plan and presentation format must be approved by me. You must use some sort of visual to explain your topic
You must use at least two references included at the end of your writing
You must have at least one page (double spaced) of writing which explains what you have learned
If you are in pairs you must have two pages of writing and you must explain how you will share the work in your project plan.
Some project ideas:
Grow your own crystal out of salt, sugar, and explain how some different crystals form in a powerpoint or a video
Make a Prezi or Emaze presentation on the crystals, precious metals, and minerals in a famous artifact like the mask of Tutankhamun
Create a working volcano out of papier mache with a cutaway which shows how magma forms and cools as intrusive and extrusive rock
Make a video, song, or interview about the rock cycle
Create a bristol board explaining the use of minerals in common items around us like glass, diamond tools, metal, or microchips
Make a model or video of plate shifting and explain how plate tectonics can create earthquakes, tsunamis, mountains, and other landforms
Make a model or use a bristol board to that show the passing of the ages through the layering of different rocks
Make a model of a cave to show how stalagmites and stalactites form from limestone
Explore and explain in a detective comic strip how chemical or mechanical erosion can create amazing landforms or disastrous landslides
Make your own fossils and explain how we can use them to find out about our past
Perform a puppet show presentation about how fossil fuels are formed
