M.I.D. / Life Skills Program

Students with a Mild Intellectual Disability exceptionality can placed into our M.I.D. / Life Skills program through a Central IPRC (Identification Placement & Review Committee) process.

Our Life Skills classes focus on the literacy and numeracy skills needed for daily independent living and workplace skills. Heydon Park offers Life Skills courses that correspond to courses in our academic program, as well as courses that focus specifically on independent living skills. In Transit Training and Community Exploration, students learn about and experience navigating the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) system. In Self-Help Self-Care, students develop independent daily living skills such as personal hygiene, clothing care, and safe household product use.

This placement of a Special Education Class with Partial Integration means that students have access to locally developed, compulsory and / or optional credit courses. The integration into the credit program starts with the flexibility to choose one or two elective courses. These electives span a variety of subjects such as physical education, art, culinary arts, hair and aesthetics.

Students enrolled in this program can attend until June of the year they turn 21 years old. This extended duration allows for personalized learning and continued support as students progress towards their individual goals.
