Humberside's Music Department is a place where students of all levels can experience the joys and beauty of being part of a community. There are many courses and extra-curriculars that students can be a part of. At Humberside, we strive to create an inclusive environment for students to discover and pursue their love of music!
An important part of the HCI Music Department is providing space for student voice to be at the centre. Students are the reason why we do what we do! Please see below for testimonies from students as to why they enjoy being part of the Humberside Music community!
I have had a great experience with Humberside’s music department. Through taking music classes, participating in Humbersides vocal group and other extracurriculars, I have been able to meet new people and gain experiences I wouldn’t otherwise have. From going to see performances, performing in a musical, performing at music nights and caroling for senior citizens I have broadened my l horizons and surrounded myself with people with the same interests as me. This has all been possible with the help of the music department who continuously makes opportunities for students to showcase their talent on and offstage.
I'm proud to be a member of Humberside Collegiate's music program. As someone passionate about music, taking part in Music Council and the Strings program has helped me find my place in the school. Because we often have multiple-grade split classes, we music students end up as a tight-knit group spanning several grades. I feel more involved in the Humberside community as a whole because of my connection to other grades through music where I can find diverse people with similar interests.
Diving into the world of music at Humberside CI has definitely been an enriching experience! Throughout my time in this fun and supportive environment, I’ve been able to find a new passion for singing, and further develop my skills, both through in-class activities and school-wide performances. Most important, however, are the lasting memories and friendships I’ve made and will continue to make while exploring the universal language of music.
Music council is like Queen’s Park but for music. I would say it’s the foundation of the music program at Humberside, one that I’m glad to be part of. We help and lay the foundation on musical events at Humberside with the help of the incredible Dr. Kress and the legendary Ms. Joseph by adding a student flare to things and pitching ideas. HCI Music Council is a council that voices the student’s desire of improving the music program, and not having to worry about getting into debatable arguments, most of the time anyways :-)
