Renovations: Before, During and After!

Library Field Trip!

A group of Vanier Students attended the Toronto Public Library Young Adult Author Festival on Wednesday December 12th at North York Central Library.

Students attended talks and workshops with Uzma Jalaluddin, Lisa Charleyboy, Jason Loo and S. K. Ali. It was an amazing experience talking about writing from and for diverse voices!

Partnership Event with Toronto Public Library

On Friday November 30th the Georges Vanier Library and Learning Hub had our first community partnership event with the Fairview Library. The grade 10 Leadership class and Vanier Pages hosted a book launch for local author Nora Decter. Vel and Jacqueline were fantastic MCs and they also did an excellent presentation on all the projects the Leadership class have launched in the Learning Hub including Peer Tutoring and the planned “Innovation Bay”. The students had amazing energy (and even went around the entire Fairview Library to recruit more audience members) and asked really perceptive questions. Thanks so much to Mr. Devji for being there and working with the students and thanks to all the Leadership Students and Pages for all their hard work!

Author Visit With Nora Decter

On Thursday November 15 Vanier was proud to host Young Adult author Nora Decter for the launch of her novel How Far We Go And How Fast. Vanier students attended a reading and Question and Answer Session. Afterwards 7 lucky Vanier writers received a catered lunch with Nora where they got to talk about writing, publishing and creativity. We all had an amazing experience! Four lucky students also got to take home a copy of Nora's book!

Support our Learning Hub Revitalization!

We are always coming up with new ways to improve the space for students. Our Speaker Series focuses on bringing community and professional organizations and artists into the school to showcase cross curricular literacy, student supports, and post secondary pathways. Coming up this year we have the Toronto Public Library, Musician Lindy V., Author Nora Decter, Film Maker Terril Calder and Univeristy Professor Chris Graffos.

The STEM+ students are in the process of developing an amazing Makerspace full of technology and gear to help you connect with what's happening in the world of technology and access your inner genius!

We are always in the process of ordering new books and digital resources to support student learning and literacy.

We are also working on a literacy support program and are about to launch our Peer Tutoring program.

How can you help?

We need volunteers, people willing to fund-raise, and people who just want to show support by coming to an event.

See Ms. Davidson or Ms. Leventis for information on how to get involved!
