Greenwood Secondary School has a uniquely distinctive Math program in TDSB. We promote equity and span courses all the way from “workplace” Math through Grade 9 Academic and beyond. Students join essential courses and by the time they leave us, they are prepared for academic or applied pathways.
We value learner diversity and promote equity while respecting individual differences in ability. At Greenwood Secondary School, we thrive to build an inclusive community that focuses on improved outcomes for all students using various teaching strategies, technology, manipulatives and differentiated instruction.
We carefully select word problems so that our new Canadian students, with limited vocabulary, can make connections with the real-world problems and apply their skills successfully.
We also offer a LEAP math program (Literacy Enrichment Academic Program). It is a special program offered to non- Native English speaking students between 11 - 18 years old that did not have an opportunity to go to school regularly in their home country before coming to Canada. LEAP students are then given an opportunity at Greenwood Secondary School to gain English language, literacy skills and mathematics skills so that they can participate in a regular Canadian class environment. Department members work closely with the English, Special-Education, and Guidance departments to ensure that students exiting the LEAP program are placed at the right level to experience success.
