TTC Travel Training - The program offers an in-person session with our travel trainer who will help you navigate your trip using the TTC’s accessible buses, streetcars and/or subways.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Independence is one of the most important skills students develop in secondary school for use both in their lives as students and as future participating members of society. Through the gradual release of responsibility, we endeavor to prepare our students for independence according to their needs, learning profile and readiness. TTC training is an essential part of this preparation.
Importantly, through TTC training, your teen will gain the skills and travel competency necessary to make informed decisions about the best way to travel to and from school to meet their changing needs. By taking the TTC to school, your teen will have the ability to:
Be on time for class, not frequently and repeatedly late due to school bus delays and cancellations
Remain in their period four class until the bell rings, with no pressure to leave early to meet the school bus before classes are officially dismissed
Take the TTC with peers who are experienced public transport users
Meet teachers for extra help in their courses before and after school
Participate in clubs, team sports and other extracurricular activities before and after school
Use the school library resources before or after school
Feel more included in school life by not having their school day shaped by the school bus schedule
Attend part time jobs independently
Give you a break with their new-found independence
We look forward to giving you updates after the TTC training information session with our next steps.
Sincerely,
Heather Kessler
