Red and White Spirit Day marks the official launch of our fall athletics season, bringing our entire student body together for a high-energy celebration of athletic growth, community, and school pride. Throughout the day, classes will step out of the traditional classroom setting and head to the athletic fields and gymnasium to cheer on our student-athletes as every single fall team takes the home court and field.
This annual tradition reflects an exciting chapter for our school’s athletic program. Over the past few seasons, our sports program has made incredible strides, bringing a higher level of dedication, tactical skill, and competitive focus to every game. While the event maintains a welcoming, festival-style atmosphere, it also highlights our student-athletes’ rising performance and commitment to excellence. Our teams are playing with greater drive, discipline, and pride than ever before, making every matchup a genuine thrill to watch.
To complement the action on the field, the entire campus will be buzzing with festive energy, lively music, and school spirit. The day is designed as a completely free experience for all participants. Between matches, students can enjoy freshly popped popcorn, sweet cotton candy, and warm hot chocolate while cheering from the sidelines.
The crown jewel of the day is the marquee afternoon matchup: our Senior Boys Soccer team taking on rival school Greenwood in the annual El Clásico match. With students decked out in red and white gear from head to toe, the stands will be packed as our team looks to defend home turf in one of the most anticipated athletic events of the year. Red and White Spirit Day sets an inspiring tone for an ambitious, action-packed fall season, celebrating both who we are as a school and where our growing sports program is headed.
The Rivalry Series marks the premier highlight of our winter athletics season, bringing students together for an action-packed day of competition, school spirit, and community pride. Building on the momentum of our expanding athletics program, this signature winter event showcases our student-athletes' ongoing dedication, tactical growth, and competitive drive on both the court and the ice.
The day kicks off in the gymnasium with an energetic morning double-header. Students will pack the stands to cheer on our Senior Girls Volleyball team and Senior Boys Basketball team as they host critical home matchups. Reflecting our school’s commitment to athletic development, these games highlight the elevated skill, team discipline, and focus our program continues to build season after season. Following the morning games, the school community will gather for a shared pizza lunch, along with extra snacks and drinks to fuel up for the afternoon.
After lunch, the excitement moves beyond our campus walls as spectators will travel together to Leaside Arena. There, students will bring the noise to a full-sized venue for the marquee afternoon event: our Varsity Ice Hockey team taking the ice in a high-intensity matchup. Skating in front of a packed arena of cheering classmates provides our players with an unforgettable home-ice advantage and celebrates the rising quality of our hockey program.
To keep the experience organized and accessible for all families, a ticket for the entire excursion is just $5. This single fee covers all event entry, transit, and pizza lunch. The Rivalry Series sets a powerful standard for our winter season which combines spirited tradition with our school's steady march toward athletic excellence.
Friday Night Lights stands as the grand finale of our athletic calendar, bringing a celebrated year of competition, growth, and school pride to an unforgettable close. As the ultimate showcase of our spring season, this annual evening tradition highlights the remarkable progress, sportsmanship, and dedication achieved across our entire athletics program throughout the school year.
Taking place at Monarch Park Stadium, the event features an exciting double-header as both our Girls and Boys Soccer teams step onto the turf to take on Sir John A. Macdonald in our annual exhibition series. These feature matches reflect our athletics program's continued momentum, showcasing our student-athletes' rising tactical discipline, skill, and competitive drive in front of a energized crowd.
Hosted outside of regular school hours under the stadium lights, Friday Night Lights extends far beyond campus, bringing together the broader Danforth community. With both schools heavily involved, the event routinely attracts over 900 spectators—uniting students, staff, families, local neighbors, and alumni in the bleachers for an unmatched stadium experience.
From the electric atmosphere in the stands to the high-level play on the pitch, Friday Night Lights captures the true spirit of Danforth athletics. It is a fitting celebration of our student-athletes' hard work and the absolute best way to cap off an incredible year of sports.
Relay for Life stands as one of our school community’s most meaningful and inspiring annual traditions, bringing students, staff, and families together in a united effort to support cancer research and honor those affected by the disease. Facilitated in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, our event joins a massive nationwide movement hosted at high schools and universities across Canada—a movement that accounts for millions of dollars raised annually for vital cancer research, advocacy, and patient support initiatives. At Danforth alone, students have raised over $150,000 in the last four years since the grade 12 Leadership class first brough this amzaing event to the school community.
A defining highlight of the event is the active participation of cancer survivors from our local community. Inviting actual survivors to walk the track, share their journeys, and participate in the ceremonies grounds the day in hope, resilience, and real-world connection. Seeing survivors lead the way offers our students a powerful, tangible reminder of the real impact their fundraising efforts have on individuals and families across the country.
Throughout the day, student teams take turns walking the track, participating in reflective ceremonies, and enjoying team-building activities that celebrate strength and unity. Relay for Life showcases the deep empathy, leadership, and community spirit of our student body, serving as a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together for a vital cause.
