Graduation Requirements

**NEW** Starting in 2026, students taking Grade 10 Career Studies will complete a digital financial literacy test to fulfill their graduation requirement, with retake options available until they pass.

OSSD for 2024 and later

If you entered grade 9 in 2024 or later, to earn a high school diploma in Ontario, you must:

earn 17 compulsory credits

earn 13 optional credits
pass the literacy requirement
earn at least two online learning credits (or opt out of requirement)
complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities

DETAILED GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING HIGH SCHOOL IN 2024 OR LATER HERE

OSSD for 2023 and earlier

If you are currently in grade 11 or 12+, to earn a high school

diploma in Ontario, you must:

earn 18 compulsory credits

earn 12 optional credits
pass the literacy requirement
earn at least two online learning credits (or opt out of requirement)
complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities
