Studies show that as little as 15 minutes per day of sustained silent reading is the best way to:
- improve your reading comprehension, stamina, & fluency.
- build your vocabulary & background knowledge.
- become a better writer.
- develop a lifelong habit and enjoyment of reading for a variety of purposes…especially power!
(reading = knowledge = power)
Additionally, reading fiction (rather than information text) is a great way to:
- improve your mental health through relaxation & immersing yourself in a story-world.
- build empathy for people whose perspectives & life experiences are different from your own.

- Maintain both a "Want to Read" and "Read" bookshelf on Goodreads.com.
- Choose a "just right" book of personal interest.
- Get comfortable & read quietly for at least 15 minutes each day in class (to earn a level 3 -- reading at home for an additional 15-30 minutes each day will earn you a level 4 or 4+, respectively).
- Record what you read on the Status of the Class spreadsheet.

- Participate in weekly Digital Book Club discussions on Goodreads.com.

- Compile your Reading Ladder.
- Reflect on your growth as a reader.
- Set reading goals for the next month.
As you Finish Each Book:

- Add it to your Finished Books List.
- Mark it as "Read," enter dates started & finished reading, rate it, and write a mini Book Review on Goodreads.com.
- Complete a book spine and stick it to your class' "bookshelf" on the door.
