Audition Information

The York Mills C.I. Music Department will be holding auditions this upcoming September 2026 for our two band ensembles: Concert Band and Symphonic Band.

There will be a meeting in the Band Room (M3) on Wednesday September 9th after school for all musicians who are looking to join one of the ensembles.

Your placement will be determined on skill level, but also need within the ensemble. All musicians will be accepted and placed into one of the bands. 

These auditions will not only determine your ensemble but also which part you play and if you will be the section leader (principal player). 

The links will become live in September. Each instrument will have a different set of requirements to record and submit.

Both ensembles will perform for YMCI and middle schools, participate in marching bands, as well as OBA, Kiwanis, and MusicFest competitions. 

Symphonic Band performs material at a 3.5-5 level. It is considered our advanced ensemble where students should have at least 3 full years of playing experience.

Concert Band performs material at a level 3. It is considered our intermediate ensemble where 1-3 years experience is required.

These ensembles are a full-year commitment. Attendance at all rehearsals and sectionals every week is mandatory. Mrs. Bonura must be notified of all absences well in advance of rehearsal. No more than 2 missed rehearsals per semester.

The purpose for holding auditions is not to make anyone nervous or to deter musicians from being a part of an ensemble. These auditions are a quick way in which I can hear all the prospective players and place them where they will not only learn the best but also thrive. 

**NOTE** - You may join both ensembles if you would like. If you are placed in Symphonic Band, you are welcome to join Concert Band, and vice versa. But attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals. 

Instructions for submission:

1. Follow the link below for your instrument and prepare the excerpts within your instrument folder. 

2. Read the *.txt file "Instructions for Audition Submission"

3. Upload your video to your school Google Drive and email the link to Ms. Bonura donna.kiousisbonura@tdsb.on.ca by Saturday September 19th, 10:00 pm. 

4. Results will go live on this website on Monday September 21st. Symphonic Band's first rehearsal will be on Wednesday September 23rd and Concert Band will be on Thursday September 24th.
