In this Ted Talk, Andrew Zwickwer, a physicist and NJ senate member discusses the importance of science literacy. Science literacy is important so that we can be actively involved in the world around us, making informed decisions and peaking new scientific interest. In this talk, Zwickwer encourages his audience to continue to learn and ask questions so that they can become more fully educated people and make new discoveries. This article details methods for teachers to increase science literacy in the classroom, specifically in high school settings. I found it particularly interesting that it discusses bridging science with things outside of the classroom to allow students to have a comprehensive understanding of scientific phenomena surrounding them. It is very useful for teachers to understnand that the more they relate science to the real world, the more engaged their students will be in scientific material.
