Satya Heinig: Acupressure is a form of acupoint therapy that gently addresses the flow of energy in the meridian system AKA energy channels in the body. Science now backs up this extensively researched practice with machines that can detect these very same energy channels. The meridians are said to have first been discovered some 6000 years ago by Taoist Masters living in the vast regions known as China. They created a holistic health system that was born out of what is referred to as the “Five Elemental Theory”. This system was developed and refined by Chinese doctors and healers throughout the centuries .
Today this system still holds true and is grounded in international scientific research. Although this theory is extremely complex in nature, the simplicity of acupressure and meridian balancing is to help cultivate your personal chi ( life force energy). Whether it's clearing blocked or excessive energy from the body or tonifying weak or stagnant energy in certain organ systems, ultimately it is about restoring balance to the body as a whole. Our bodies can then access the innate wisdom of the self healing mechanism from within.
Satya Heinig: In the mid 1900’s Dr. William Sutherland D.O. observed and documented a force in the body that was making corrections without him adding any force to the system, while performing cranial osteopathy on his patients. That was the beginning of Craniosacral therapy in all its different forms that we have today. The many benefits of CST have been widely documented and some include:
Relief from headaches and migraines
Neck and back pain
Boosting the immune system
Balancing the endocrine system
Decreasing depression and chronic stress
Reducing symptoms in autoimmune disorders
Fast forward to 2012 when scientist and researcher Maiken Nedergaard discovered the “glymphatic system” in the brain. Very similar to the lymphatic system, it works with the cerebrospinal fluid through the glial cells, to get rid of spent proteins and harmful waste products that accumulate in the brain. This process happens primarily while we sleep. Craniosacral therapy helps to optimize this fluid system in the brain, and synchronize cranial rhythms that move the cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord to the sacrum continuously. Craniosacral therapists utilize gentle unwinding and decompression techniques on various brain structures, releasing fascial restrictions and creating space thus enhancing the brain's fluid system. This can facilitate the healing potential of optimal brain function, nervous system synchronization, and homeostasis, simultaneously throughout the body.
Satya Heinig: Lomi Lomi is an ancient form of bodywork native to the Hawaiian Islands that has been practiced for at least 1000 years. It has been featured in spas worldwide, and is renowned for its Aloha spirit of flowing strokes that are analogous to ocean waves. Traditional Lomi Lomi that has been passed down through family lineages are all slightly different, yet the focus is on the bones. This is because Hawaiian healing practitioners believe the soul of a person resides in the bones. Hawaiian bodywork can therefore be intuitive and spiritual in nature.
Mana Lomi is a specific form taught by lineage holder Dr. Maka’ala Yates. It is a form of Lomi that has long been acclaimed for its problem solving techniques. One of the many objectives is to release restrictions from the fascia, golgi tendon organs, muscle spindle fibers etc., while integrating gentle yet deep soothing (like the ocean), that initiates a resetting and realignment process of the skeletal system. This form is truly the original Myofascial Release…and so much more!
