Senior Seminar is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation beneficial for students' future endeavors. The initial semester focuses on career-readiness while the second semester pivots towards developing the life skills necessary for real-world success. Students engage in a diverse range of activities aimed at honing skills vital for professional settings, enabling them to navigate the intricacies of career development effectively. Additionally, emphasis is placed on cultivating independent living skills, equipping students with the necessary tools and knowledge to confidently navigate various aspects of daily life beyond academia. Overall, this course offers a holistic approach, cultivating both career skills and independent living abilities, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future endeavors.
Semester 1: University & Career Readiness
Students will focus on post-secondary planning including:
Researching universities and career paths
Preparing application materials
Writing personal statements and supplemental essays
Developing a professional résumé
Practicing interview skills
Meeting deadlines for applications and scholarships
Semester 2: Life Skills for Independent Living
Students will explore real-world skills to help them confidently transition into life after high school, including:
Financial literacy (budgeting, saving, credit basics)
Time and stress management
Communication & conflict resolution
Apartment and job applications
Health, wellness, and self-care strategies
Each quarter grade will be calculated with the following components and weightings:
Assignments and Quizzes: 30%
Homework: 10%
Major assessments: 60%
Semester grades are calculated using the 2 quarter grades and a final evaluation worth 20%.
Be punctual (on time) and come prepared.
Be respectful of other individuals and the learning environment.
Engage thoughtfully in all activities (participate in discussions, questions and answers, group projects).
Take responsibility for your own learning by committing to read assigned novels and texts every day/night and make annotations.
Speak to the teacher freely and be proactive when you need questions answered, clarity on assignments, additional time to make up work, and assistance completing assignments.
Use devices appropriately.
Make connections between what is being learned and present-day events.
