Money: TCIS provides you with a B30,000 (USD=$850) settling-in allowance. This is meant to cover a security deposit on your new home (see housing options doc) as well as any new apartment furnishings but of course can be used however you need it.
It is important to note that your first paycheck will come at the end of August. We get paid on the last working day of each month, so this makes for a long first 6 weeks in Thailand. Be prepared with some money to help yourself through this. A rough (conservative?) estimate would be $1000 for a single person.
All TCIS employees receive pay through direct deposit into a Krungsri bank account (link below) established by the school during the first few days of new teacher orientation in July. Once your account has been established, you will have online access to your account as well as a Krungsri Visa Debit card which can be used in virtually all ATM machines throughout Asia.
The currency is the Thai Baht (BHT). It may be useful to use an app such as Currency Exchange to better familiarize yourself with the differences in the currencies.
