Photography 1A/1B is a hands on, year long introduction to photography. Students learn about various camera formats and how to use them, for both personal and professional applications. Through traditional and digital approaches, students learn processing film, printing in the darkroom and workflow on the computer, including storing, archiving, correcting and manipulating images using photo software such as Photoshop. Photo learn photographic genres and photograph school and sporting events, performances and shows, as well as class and personal projects. Work in the studio includes constructing backdrops, using props, and learning basic and advanced lighting in controlled environments. Students learn about the history of photography, its uses and technology, aesthetics and rules of photographic composition, as well as the elements of art and principles of design, and how to make better photographs. The connections between photo-making as self expression, and as contributions to culture, society and careers are stressed. The course counts for Tech Art or Visual Art credit and satisfies the Fine Arts requirement for UC/CSU curriculum. CTE course stand alone course
