Communications Technology, Grade 10, Open (TGJ2O1)
This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. These may include creating printed stationary, short videos, computer-generated animations, and graphical information displays. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism.

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Student will develop knowledge and skills related to the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of the basic and more complex components of a range of communications systems, Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.

This course enables students to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of graphic communication, printing and publishing, audio and video production, and broadcast journalism. Students will work both independently and as part of a production team to design and produce media products in a project-driven environment. Practical projects may include the making of signs, yearbooks, video and/or audio productions, newscasts, and documentaries. Students will also develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways and career opportunities in the various communications technology fields.

Communications Technology: Print and Graphic Communications, Grade 11, University/College Preparation (TGG3M1)
This course enables students to further develop media knowledge and skills while designing and producing projects in the areas of graphic communications. This course is an emphasis course with a focus on print and graphic communications. In this course students will further develop their understanding of the print production, illustration, digital imaging and graphic design. Students will also expand their awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology, and will investigate career opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing technological environment. The students in this course will design the school yearbook.

Communications Technology: Photography and Digital Imaging, Grade 11, University/College Preparation (TGP3M1)
Students will explore the interaction of photography techniques and environmental factors to create powerful images. They will also uncover features of their digital camera, transfer images to a computer, perform basic image adjustments using Adobe Photoshop, archive photos for future use, and help prepare students for rewarding careers in related fields in the Movie, Televisions, Special Effects, Advertising, and many other Design and Entertainment related areas. This course allows you to learn the photography skills necessary to build the yearbook.

Technological Design in the Twenty-first Century, Grade 12, Open (TDJ4O1)
This course focuses on the relationship between society and technological development. Students will use appropriate tools, techniques, and strategies to research, design, build, and assess prototypes for products and/or processes that respond to society’s changing needs. Students will describe how social factors, including culture, media, politics, religion, and environmental concerns, influence technological design. Students will also learn about professional practices in the field, and will research postsecondary pathways leading to careers related to technological design.
