THE ARTS

At St. Mary Catholic Academy we believe that the arts enrich the academic lives of all students. We offer an exciting program that includes Dramatic Arts, Music, and Visual Arts. We also offer enriched courses in Theatre and Visual Arts in preparation for students interested in continuing the Arts in the International Baccalaureate program as well as Adaptive Arts for our Exceptional students.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN THE ARTS

There are many opportunities for students to become involved in extra-curricular activities to enrich their Arts program and to practice their craft. Some of the activities include: choir, concert band, liturgical performances, photography club, production crew, drama club, Arts Showcase and The National Arts Festival (see below for more information).

National Arts Festival

Our school has participated for the last two years in the National Theatre School Drama Festival. It has provided an opportunity for our students to take part in creating and performing theatre productions. This year our students performed Another Me. This tells the story of several teenagers overcoming a variety of mental health challenges, and learning to manage their mental illnesses in healthy and sustainable ways. Another Me won at the National Theatre School Drama Festival District level, and was set to represent SMCA at the Regionals at the University of Toronto's Hart House Theatre for the second year in a row.
