The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a specialized 2-year program approved by the Ministry of Education and offered to students in grades 11 and 12.
SHSM allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Students will gain sector-specific skills and knowledge in engaging, career-related learning environments, in a focused way for graduation and postsecondary education, training or employment.
St. Patrick offers SHSM opportunities in the areas of Construction and Hospitality & Tourism.
Pursuing SHSM allows students to acquire:
the skills and experience to assist them in their chosen post-secondary pathway: Apprenticeship Training, College, University and the Workplace.
Students who complete all SHSM requirements before graduation receive the SHSM red seal of distinction on their diploma and an SHSM Record Card for their portfolio, documenting their accomplishments
They are also eligible for scholarships and incentive opportunities at many postsecondary institutions.
SHSM students identify themselves through a checkbox on OCAS and OUAC when they are applying to College or University.
