The opening ceremonies were broadcast live from the Catholic Education Centre to All Saints and principals of participating schools. The purpose was to expand the reach of the symposium and to demonstrate how All Saints provides a platform for student voice. Watch the opening ceremonies to get an overview of the event.
When signing up, registrants were asked to provide school email addresses of all student delegates. Student leaders from All Saints contacted delegates in advance of the symposium to introduce themselves, inform delegates about their workshop and invite the delegates to prepare material in advance. A sample email from student leaders is below, along with a student made promotional video.
Workshops: students were divided into groups and rotated through three sessions:
Developing Systems and Structures to Amplify Student Voice
Activities, Fundraising, and Finances
Leadership Skills and Partnering with School Staff
We were fortunate to have support of the Catholic Student Leadership Department and the All Saints Parent Council to help fund the event. Following the Symposium, Akeem Haynes stopped in to speak to students at All Saints Catholic School, as we had booked him for the day. The speaker fees came in under $2000. Lunch was provided by the CEC and we provided all attendees with a delegates bag, containing some donated and some expensed items.
