O Canada (bilingual version)

O Canada! Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all of us command,

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,

Il sait porter la croix!

Ton histoire est une épopée

Des plus brillants exploits,

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Background

Our Land Acknowledgement shows recognition of and respect for Indigenous peoples in both the past and the present, and encourages us to recognize Indigenous people on whose traditional territories we live and work. This recognition, which appropriately takes place at the commencement of gatherings, meetings and presentations, is an important component of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action as an essential element in establishing healthy and reciprocal relations for everyone in Canada.

It is important to remember that 46 treaties cover Ontario and other treaty agreements that include land purchases by the Crown, signed between 1781 and 1930. Treaties are the legally binding agreements that set out the rights, responsibilities and relationships of Indigenous people and the federal and provincial governments.

Recognizing this land expresses gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on, and honours the Indigenous people who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial.

Did you know...?

The history of the First Peoples in this continent began much earlier and as public serving institutions, it is important that we recognize and correct any misconceptions about the history of this country.

Celebrating our new pastoral plan:

Let us always pray for one another, as we walk with Christ!

Walking with Christ Pastoral Plan Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Ever-present God, we always walk in your light and love, surrounded by your care and concern. Our life is a journey with the many choices we make along the way. Grant that we may follow the way of Jesus with eyes of faith and hope, hearts of kindness and love, and minds of justice and peace, always supported by your guidance, your strength, and your safety. May we discover your presence in the people and events we encounter each day as we try to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel by walking and acting justly, walking and loving tenderly, and walking humbly with you and with one another.

Together we ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, who walks with us each day.

AMEN!

Prayer for Victims at Residential Schools & for Truth and Reconciliation

Lord of all compassion, we pray for those who suffered due to these tragic events. Grant those who lost their lives eternal rest.

For all those families who were affected, and for those who continue to suffer from the trauma of residential schools,

may you bless them with strength and healing.

We entrust to you all children who died. In the face of this great tragedy,

we pray that all families of the victims may know your peace that surpasses all understanding.

Fill us all with your unfailing hope and mercy.

Help us to be diligent in the coming days to be especially caring and kind to one another, always ready to love and forgive.

We ask all these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
