Canadian & World Studies, Social SCIENCES AND THE hUMANITIES Department

The Canadian and World Studies program allows students to learn about how people interact with and within their social and physical environments today, and how they did so in the past. The Social Sciences and Humanities subject areas are concerned with how students view themselves, their families, their communities, and society as they seek to find meaning in the world around them. Students’ learning in the various courses in this discipline will contribute significantly to their understanding of Canada’s heritage and its physical, social, cultural, governmental, legal, and economic structures and relationships. It will also help them to perceive Canada in a global context and to understand its place and role in the world community. Through practical experiences, discussions, debates, research, and study and reflection, our courses help students to become self-motivated problem- solvers, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully face their changing world In this department, students have the opportunity to take courses in an enormous variety of topics including Anthropology, Families in Canada, Food & Nutrition, Geography, Genocide Studies, History, Law, Philosophy, Psychology & Sociology, Raising and Caring for Children, Social Justice & Equity, and Travel & Tourism.
