Music is the fundamental basis of entertainment and expression in our world. Music is everywhere in day to day life. Music is played at weddings, funerals, on the radio, and in your headphones just to give a few examples. This shows how influential music is and why my fertile question is. How has music influenced our culture/society and has it influenced us in a negative or a positive way? And I do truly believe it has and I want to talk about all the ins and outs of music and tell you why it is beneficial in our society.
This may be a silly question as it is all around us but it is good to clear it up. In short, music is the sounds and vibrations that our body can feel or hear. Since it has the power to alter your mood as well as your thoughts and feelings, music has a significant social impact. Slower, heavier music can make you feel down, whereas quicker, uplifting music can make you happy and improve your mood.
According to Google, music is any combination of vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) that results in aesthetic beauty, symphony, and emotional expression. "Couples were dancing to the music, or to signs that represented vocal or instrumental sound that were written or printed. Tony gained musical literacy "The Emotion: Music is a kind of art that combines vocal or instrumental sounds for aesthetic beauty or emotional expression. It typically follows cultural norms for rhythm, melody, and harmony, which are common in most Western music harmony. Both the simple folk song and the complex electronic composition belong to the same activity, music.
And most importantly music is a feeling, a memoir and an experience of a lifetime. Music is everywhere and everything.
Before talking about music you must look into how it has evolved throughout history.
Music first came about in the Paleolytic era but it still departed if it was middle paleolithic around 300,000 - 50,000 bp or the upper paleolithic 50,000 - 12,000 bp. The point of telling you this is that music has been around for so long and has been used for such a long time.
Music evolves along with us throughout our ages. During the medieval times, renisounts, war time and many many more time periods music changes. Music has evolved tremendously in the last 100 years with each decade bringing in new music and genres but especially in the last 40 years music has exploded with everyone and their mother creating it because it is so easy to create and produce music with everything redible available at your fingertips. In my opinion it is fantastic because it gives people an outlet to talk and express themselves in their personality and orientation. The evolution in my opinion is quite positive because it shows how influential music can be and how it has evolved with us.
This graph is showing how many people are paying for services of music and as you see it has exploded exponentially and showing how music has evolved into the digital age.
The way music influences people and ourselves is incredibly interesting to me because it has influenced me in a specific way and has shaped my personality and how I view the world around me. So in short, music has the power to culturally, morally, and emotionally influence our society. Thus, the more intentional we become with the sounds, messages, and moods we create and release through our music, the more powerful we will become in making deep positive impacts which is amazing how sound waves can do all of this.
Music in the opinion of lots of people includes neuroscience and many people that surround me are the most culturally important form of media. TV, Movies, Books, Plays all have influence but i believe music is the most influential. If you ask any people I know they will all tell you I have my headphones listening to music because it is something that boosts my mood and makes me feel good and when I have to take them out (this is a bit dramatic but) meaninglis with nothing to listen to. Through music I have found so many different genres of music that I can play depending on the mood I am in if i want something hype or exciting I may play some 21 savage, Baby keem, some tyler the creator songs and many more, but if i want to relax I could play tyler, keem, drake, vacations, jcole, mac demarco but these are just the tip of the iceberg as some of these artist are so diverse and different song to song.
Some things that are very interesting to me are alter egos and how you can live through them. Other artists can tell whole stories in their music. The best people for this are MF DOOM and Tyler the creator. On each album they play a character on all their albums they have never technically themselves. Tyler has played wolf hayley, tron cat, basterd, flower boy, Igor and tyler boulder and a few more MF DOOM has MF DOOM, VICTOR VAUGHN and KING GHIDRA. To show how amazing the story telling is King Ghidra was a 3 headed dragon that is trying to take over the world. These names may mean nothing to you but to me these are people's feelings and lives I have lived through in their music. It is amazing how music storytelling is amazing through their eyes and it can somewhat flow through you.
Music, as a cultural right, may aid in the promotion and protection of other human rights. It can help in the healing process, dismantling walls and boundaries, reconciliation, and education. Around the world, music is being used as a vehicle for social change and bringing communities together. This is how Lia Peralta from the save the music foundation described music and what it does. In my opinion and neurological scientist opinion music is a powerful tool in making new pathways and helping heal our brains and bodies as music therapy is used to help people regain cognitive functions again. Along with that as I mentioned before It is beneficial as it can help you gain new perspectives on other lives and backgrounds making you be more aware of others problems and lives they live, you could learn alot from a song such as how their family battles with drugs or poverty and how they got through it. Someone who does this well is Kendrick Lamar who shows how racist gang activities and drugs have shaped the way he sees the world and how he can help the people around him. I know for a fact he has saved thousands of lives through his lyrics and has helped people get through tough times by being relatable through his music and what he does. In the conclusion of this paragraph music is highly beneficial in how we live and what we take in in our day to day lives.
In my opinion and neurological scientist opinion music is a powerful tool in making new pathways and helping heal our brains and bodies as music therapy is used to help people regain cognitive functions again. This was famously used to help an american congresswoman Gabby Giffords to relearn to speak after being shot in the 2011 tucson shootings the interesting thing about how it helped her is she could not say some words but in music form she could say them with eaise not struggle to say them as the music was so ingrained in her mind she said them without any thought behind it.
By learning more about music, we can learn more about ourselves. Music helps scientists understand complex functions of the brain and opens up treatments for patients who are recovering from strokes or suffering with Parkinson's. Research even suggests that music may alter the structure of the brain. Says Kim Clark frome live science. This shows how music can be beneficial in helping people when they can't do anything
“Researchers found that patients who listened to relaxing music while getting an IV inserted reported significantly less pain, and some demonstrated significantly less distress, compared with patients who did not listen to music.” Music therapy is truly a miracle therapy. Says Erika Montgomery of the Peterson family foundation.
What I am trying to convey through this paragraph is that music is a tool for healing and fixing brain activity and is not just something you listen to to pass time and relax with. Before looking in to this topic I was unaware about the many benefits music brings to our lives and how we comprehend the world around us
In this report I have explained to you all about the benefits of music and how it is important to our society and how it has shaped the world around us. Throughout this report i have truly believed music is beneficial and need in our world and after finishing this report it has cemented that idea in my mind with music being able to help people with neurological disadvantages and other brain disorders and how people can show you a story in there music and how music can start movements and help millions of people world wide. So in conclusion my question was: How has music influenced our culture/society and has it influenced us in a negative or a positive way?. And my answer to this question is yes it has influenced our culture in a phenomenal and a positive way showing yet again why music is beneficial to our flourishing and expanding society.
