Introduction
In 2006 my dad emigrated from India to New Zealand. My dad left India because of the experience he had and to find a safer place to live . He chose New Zealand because he wanted to travel to another country, and he was offered a perfect opportunity, and it is one of the safest countries. My ancestor that immigrated to New Zealand was born in a small village in India and later on he moved to a big city called Delhi, which he grew up in. Then in 2006 he left India by a plane, he went on a short journey to Singapore, and from there he went on a 10 hour journey to Aotearoa New Zealand. He definitely made the right decision to move to New Zealand for a better future. I am going to discuss about the push and pull factors that made my dad leave his homeland and move to Aotearoa New zealand
Push factor 1
One of the major push factors was that the country was overpopulated because of high birth rates. The population of India in 2006 was 1.165 billion. Which meant there was limited water and extinction of plants and trees, and over farming. Sometimes you would run out of water because of water shortages. Because of the population, in some places there was rubbish everywhere. In India, most people’s jobs are far from their houses, which means they need to take transport everyday, which leads to lots of pollution.
Push factor 2
This is also a really big problem in India. The death rates in India were too high, There were too many deaths and crimes everyday. A lot of deaths were caused by diseases from smoking, drugs and alcohol. Millions of people die from smoking and other drugs. A few bombings occured during the 2000s, which killed lots of people.
Discussion on the Push factors
There have always been problems in India due to overpopulation like water shortages and rubbish, in some places, people still don’t have running water in their houses. The simple solution to this problem is to use water wisely and not waste it. Smoking and alcohol is pretty common in India, each year, more than 10 million people die due to the use of tobacco. Another big problem the population causes is too much pollution from vehicles.
Pull factor 1
My dad was offered a job in New Zealand as a chef. Some of his friends and people he worked with in the past also moved to New Zealand to work as chefs. It was the perfect job for him because he was a chef before he came to New Zealand and was getting more income here, his parents and family thought that it was the right choice for him to go to New Zealand for a better future.
Pull factor 2
He liked to travel and explore new places. He really wanted to travel to another country and he was offered a job in New zealand so he decided to go to New Zealand. Some of his friends lived in New Zealand, so he could meet them too.
Discussion on pull factors
He was offered a job in New Zealand and he loved traveling to other countries so it was a good opportunity for him to travel to a new country and nothing stopped him from doing so. My dad didn’t want a boring life where he works ten hours a day everyday and barely ever gets to go on holiday. He was getting more income as well. Which meant that he was getting paid more and he could still do things that he enjoyed.
Conclusion
In conclusion the main reason my ancestor came to New Zealand is because was offered to work in New Zealand and was getting paid more, and the main reason he left India was because of overpopulation which led to many different problems. It was definitely the right choice for him to move to New Zealand because it is a really safe country, and during the coronavirus pandemic New Zealand was one of the safest countries because the government took the global pandemic seriously and took quick actions, also there were only 25 deaths since Coronavirus came to New Zealand
