Mental Illness Task
Your task is research one of the following Anxiety disorders:
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder (Social phobia)
Specific phobia (you may choose to focus on one phobic stimulus – e.g., needles, blood, spiders…)
Then answer the following questions:
Explain the anxiety disorder you have chosen along with its symptoms.
Explain why it can be considered an anxiety disorder.
What are the common symptoms of anxiety disorders?
Outline risk factors of your chosen anxiety disorder
Identify the prevalence of your chosen anxiety disorder for groups within the population
Analyse treatment options for your chosen anxiety disorder based on effectiveness
What are the treatment options and how effective are they?
Outline strategies for maintaining good mental health
Not specific to your chosen anxiety disorder. Just general strategies for promoting good mental health
Use the DSM for Questions 1 - 4. Use alternative resources (i.e., websites) for Question 5 & 6.
