Course Description
Technical Literacy focuses on developing the literacy skills needed for success both at the senior level of schooling, but also for life beyond school. Students will develop active reading techniques that support them to comprehend the texts used within school and further study, but also in day-to-day life. Students will be introduced to and practise the critical senior school vocabulary used in assessment tasks across subjects and in exams. Students will also develop an understanding of and practice the technical skills of writing and will engage in a range of writing tasks to develop their writing confidence and competence. Students in this subject undertake classroom based activities organised by skill level. Progress is assessed in terms of development of skills that are relevant to each class group.
Outcomes - On completion of this unit students will be able to:
Use a range of strategies to infer and understand meaning of complex academic vocabulary.
Understand strategies for improved reading comprehension and apply these in comprehending texts across all subjects.
Plan, draft and publish informative and persuasive print and multimodal texts, choosing text structures, language features, images and sound appropriate to purpose and audience

Creating 3 text types demonstrating understanding of text and language features.
Pathways into VCE
Supports development of literacy skills needed for all subjects and pathways
