Year 10 Elective
Course Description
This unit provides students with an introduction to the Australian Legal System and the way in which laws operate in society. Students will cover a range of areas including the structure of the Australian government, Criminal law and Civil law. Students will develop the ability to analyse real life cases, to understand legal terminology and ideas, and apply their knowledge of theoretical concepts.
Outcomes - On completion of this unit students will be able to:
demonstrate an understanding of Australia’s legal system, including the types of democracy, the political scene and the process of laws.
demonstrate an understanding of criminal law and the relevant defences, including crimes against the person, sanctions and police powers.
demonstrate an understanding of civil law and the relevant defences, including crimes against the property and civil case analysis.
