Course Description
Civic Studies as a study aims to answer the big question of 'what influences shape the operation of Australia's political system?' Students who have an interest in political activism will benefit from studying Civic Studies. This subject seeks to engage students in local and global issues through productive and democratic discussion. Students will develop an understanding of liberal democratic system which is the foundation of our government system. In this study students discuss the role of political parties and independent representatives in Australia’s system of government, including the formation of governments, and explain the process through which government policy is shaped and developed. In addition to explaining the values and key features of Australia’s system of government compared with at least one other system of government in the Asia region. Lastly, students will develop skills in analysing how citizens’ political choices are shaped, including the influence of the media.
Outcomes - On completion of this unit students will be able to:
By the end of this outcome students analyse and explain liberal democratic framework of the Australian Government System.
By the end of this outcome students will compare and contrast Australia’s government with that of another asian country.
