Year 10 Elective
Course Description
This unit focuses on the major events and movements that shaped Australia and the modern world during the 20th Century. Students will complete an in-depth study of the interwar period (1918-1939), the struggle for civil rights in the United States and Australia, and the changing immigration policies in Australia throughout the 20th Century. Students will examine print text, film and documentary footage as analytical resource tools and will be encouraged to think critically about the major events and movements of the 20th Century.
Outcomes - On completion of this unit students will be able to:
explain the key features of the inter war period, the causes of WWII and the impact of WWII on the home front.
explain the causes and nature of challenge and change in the US and Australia during the second half of the twentieth century and analyse the consequences for people.
explain the attitudes towards migration and the experiences of migrants who came to Australia during the twentieth century.
