Introduction to Outdoor Education
Year 10 Elective
Course Description
This course provides all students with a foundation knowledge of key outdoor education concepts and environmental issues. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of working within a team and clear and effective positive communication. The importance of minimising human impacts on different outdoor environments is a significant focus. Students are also exposed to a range of adventure activities and gain a number of practical skills relevant to planned excursions. Students also focus on the importance of managing risks and personal safety by understanding emergency procedures and thorough planning.
Outcomes - On completion of this unit students will be able to:
demonstrate safe participation in outdoor activities as well as working co-operatively with others to achieve common goals.
analyse and minimise risks in an outdoor activity or setting
describe a specific outdoor environment with reference to the geology, climate, flora and fauna.
