Course Description:
The purpose of the Tarneit Senior College Elite Sports Program is to provide students with specialist sports coaching, exposure to elite sporting organisations and teams, together with leadership and initiative training and personal development activities to maximize the development of the whole student. This will facilitate students to participate in elite sport competitions, coaching and provide pathways for sports administration courses.
The Elite Sports Program aims to further engage students in the Tarneit Senior College community and provide greater opportunities to contribute as a positive member of the College.
Assessment Tasks - Formatives
Context of sport: Mini Research Assignment – History, Field dimensions, safety, rules and regulations.
Skill analysis - Including Stretching, Warmup and Cool Down analysis
Coaching styles – Film analysis
Assessment Tasks - Summatives
Test – A test of knowledge of the rules, safety requirements and regulations associated with Rugby League/Soccer and the fitness requirements of elite athletes in this sport.
Peer Coaching and Practical Participation - Identify a specific skill related to your elite sport and teach this skill to your peers and actively engage in all practical sessions.
Training Program & Skill Analysis - Design & develop an individual training program based on fitness test results and analysis a specific skill to improve.
Uniform:
Students in the program will have access to purchasing an alternate TSC uniform which is labelled with ‘Elite Sports Program’. Students will be expected to wear this uniform on all excursions and programs running outside the College as well as during practical lessons.
Students successfully gaining entry into the program will be provided with an order form in which they can purchase singlets, training shirts and shorts.
Students are expected to wear Elite Sports/PE Uniform for all practical sessions, bringing a towel to fitness sessions also.
