An intelligent approach to serve farm sites
Establish a prototype to collect sensors data from farm site (e.g., soil moisture, temperature) and decide the actuator execution (e.g., solenoid switch to control water irrigation) for automated vertical farming system.
Present collected sensors data from edge device, weather station and video streaming to visualize in graphical display, and perform data analysis on automated vertical farming performance.
Scopes
Practice in vertically stacked planting layers to optimize the land usage and remotely monitor plants status under a controlled environment.
Use the latest Machine Learning model and image processing to study and analyze healthiness of plants in real-time.
Deploy WiFi, LPWAN and LoRa communication technology and protocols to enable wide coverage of sensing devices.
Collect real time weather and environmental data consistently throughout the life cycles of plantation to assist plant monitoring with analyzed results.
Visualize informative graphs with real time farm scene views for better monitoring, observation and analysis.
Develop customized edge devices with appropriate sensors and actuator for acquiring and acting purpose.
Activities
Under Government Rancangan Malaysia Ke-11 (RMK11) plans and supports, two farm sites is set up for exploring Smart Agriculture initiatives, with list of Research and Development projects in vertical farming, IoT framework and plant analysis.
A laudable effort from our students clinched them a First Runner-up and Sliver Award in Montage and Digital Poster category, respectively, at the Internet of Things (IoT) Poster Challenge 2020 despite participating on a whim.
