Data Acquisition and Communication for
Smart Factory / Industry 4.0 Implementation
Everything you need to know in Data Channeling for Smart Factory / Industry 4.0 Implementation
Study and establish an open framework communication system for industrial machine sensor data acquisition.
Retrieve data from embedded system, e.g., Programmable Logic Control (PLC), Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) with different communication protocol (e.g., Open Protocol Communication Unified Architecture (OPC UA), Modbus TCP/IP and ProfiNet).
Store retrieve data into different database, e.g., MSSQL, MongoDB, for further analysis, such as predictive analysis.
Store data in Asset Administration Shell (AAS) manner that follow Reference Architectural Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) for Industry 4.0 implementation.
Studies were being carried out with
Two (2) industrial machines (Welding Machine and Heat Exchanger Machine) from our industrial partner, i.e., Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad (KJCF) to investigate data channeling from embedded system to database.
Plants at TAR UC agricultural Farm site with sensors and embedded systems from our industrial partner, i.e., Advantech Co. Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Advantech) to test the proposed data asset converter mechanism.
Welding Machine
In this study, we were able to channel data out from Siemens SCADA and store in database
Vibration, pressure, flow and current data were channeled to Siemens SCADA from PLC S7-1200 using ProfiNet.
OPC UA with VPN was used to retrieve these data from SCADA and stored in university computer in CSV format .
Heat Exhanger Machine
Heat exchanger machine is used to cool down the temperature of UV lamp installed in 8 colours printer.
Pressure, temperature and vibration data were channeled from sensors to PLC.
OPC UA with VPN was used to retrieve these data and stored in university computer in CSV form.
Other than that, data channeling within intranet was carried out at KJCF using OPC UA and saved in CSV form.
Data transfer using DAC
DAC is a software developed to communicate with embedded system using various communication platform and convert data into asset (any object that can create value to company either physical or non-physical entity) .
DAC read data from embedded machine and tagged with International Registration Asset Identifier (IRAI) before store in database that follow AAS structure.
DAC Data Channeling from Farm Site
Data flows sensor to DAC
Sensors data (light intensity, air quality, soil moisture, soil temperature and soil EC) will be channeled to LoRa Gateway WISE-6610.
Advantech UNO-2483G installed with DAC will retrieve data from Wise-6610 using Modbus TCP.
DAC will tag retrieved data with IRAI before store into database in AAS manner.
DAC - retrieve data from Wise-6610 and store in database (MongoDB). video2
MongoDB will store data in hierarchy level follow by AAS header and AAS body.
MongoDB - store data in hierarchy level that can descript the details of data. video3
