All specials are based on a 6-day rotation, which means we see students once every 6 days
Lessons are approximately 30-40 minutes
There are 24 student computers in our lab running Windows 10 - The web browser we use is Google Chrome.
The main focus of Computer Specials is supporting educational technology skills students will need to succeed at school and home.
For example:
GR K-2: Basic computer navigation, mouse & keyboarding skills, & introduction to block-based coding
GR 3-6: Google apps (Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, Drive, etc.), keyboarding & block-based coding
Internet research is taught during Library Specials, while digital citizenship is reinforced across Computer, Enrichment & Health Specials. All lessons are aligned with the Massachusetts Digital Literacy & Computer Science Standards.
GRADES K-6
Clever is a single sign-on application (SSO) that our district has implemented as a website resource. Clever eliminates the need for students to remember multiple usernames & passwords. With the ease of only one sign-in, students will have access to most of their school digital learning accounts/subscriptions all in one central location in the Clever portal.
To access Clever at HOME, students will need to sign in.
STEP 1: Type in Clever's website address: www.clever.com
STEP 2: Search for our school, Burgess Elementary
STEP 3: Choose → Sign-in with Google
STEP 4: Sign in with your child’s assigned school Google email address & password

GRADES 2-6
Google Workspace for Education is a web-based suite of programs provided by Google for schools to use. GR 2-6 students will use Google Classroom as their online learning platform. It is the same platform they will continue to use throughout their years at Tantasqua JH and HS.
What are some of the benefits of using Google Workspace for Education?
All G-Suite services can be accessed anywhere you have an Internet connection (school, home, smartphone, etc.) This reduces the need for flash drives & home access to network drives.
Since G-Suite is all online, it is the same everywhere you use it. There is no issue with having one version of a program at home and a different version at school.
G-Suite allows you to easily share documents and files with teachers and students, so you can turn in assignments electronically and collaborate on projects with teachers and classmates. Teachers may use Google Classroom throughout the regular school year to post announcements & assignments.
Examples of G-Suite Apps:
Google Classroom: Used as an educational online learning platform
Google Docs: Used for word processing (similar to Microsoft Word)
Google Slides: Used for creating slideshows (similar to Microsoft PowerPoint)
Google Sheets: Used for creating spreadsheets (similar to Microsoft Excel)
Google Gmail: Used for emailing teachers (only allowed within the TRSD district)
Google Drive: Used for organizing all Google files (similar to Microsoft OneDrive)

💻 Chromebook - Keyboard Shortcuts!
We highly recommend students first learn how to become proficient using Google tools on a desktop computer, laptop, or Chromebook. Even though Google apps are available on other mobile devices (ex- iPads) - the user experience is different.
