Mission Statement

The Holland Elementary Extended Day Program is a child-centered enrichment program designed for the students of Holland Elementary School. The goal of the program is to maximize students' interactions with HES staff to ensure that each child has an opportunity to pursue individual interests and hobbies in a safe, nurturing environment. The program is based on respect and responsibility, and while we are an extended day entity, we are guided by the code of conduct outlined in the Holland Student Handbook. Via a wide variety of activities, the program provides opportunities for students to participate in outdoor sports, indoor games, art projects, social studies and science units, homework completion, and exciting field trips. We strive to provide positive educational and social learning opportunities for all children while maintaining positive communication with parents, Holland Teachers, and community members.

PLAY

As we all know children learn through play. Whether it be pretend play, playing games or active play,  we do not underestimate the importance of play-time on a growing child's mind and body. The children of Holland Extended Day receive both free-play and structured-play throughout the afternoon. Age appropriate activities are scheduled with the flexibility allowed to respond to the needs of each individual child and their various ages.

We are also able to bring in special programs from time to time to enhance our already wonderful program.

HOMEWORK

The homework component to our program is available from 3:00-3:30 Monday- Thursday. It is unique, in that the students of HES have a wonderful opportunity to complete their homework with the help of staff members who are familiar with the various programs used at Holland. Please keep in mind, though our staff is willing the help in any way they can, we are not a tutoring service and homework completion is optional.
