Welcome to the Holland Elementary Extended Day Program (EDP)! This handbook provides important information about our program. Please retain it for your records.
Program Details:
Eligibility: Open to Holland students in grades K-6.
Hours: Before School: Doors open at 6:30 am and the program runs until the start of the school day.
After School: The program begins immediately after school dismissal and closes promptly at 5:00 pm.

Program Enrollment:
Required Registration: To enroll, you must complete the online Google registration form: https://forms.gle/9DWhgXzV7DjCVYiz9
Incomplete Registration: Your child will not be enrolled or permitted to attend until a completed online registration form is received.
Program Environment: While we are not a therapeutic environment, we strive to accommodate all students within our program's structure. Please be aware of our typical 1:13 child-to-adult ratio and the large group nature of our activities.
Discussing Your Child's Needs: If you have questions about whether the program is a good fit for your child's needs, we strongly encourage a meeting with our staff prior to enrolling.
Procedures for Drop-off and Pick-up:
Please come to the gym door closest to the loading dock for both before-school drop-off and after-school pick-up.
A staff member will be there to assist with signing your child in or out.
If staff are not at the gym door, they may be on the playground; please head there to sign in or out.
Please be patient during pick-up times.
Children should help clean up their activity area when being picked up.
Outdoor Play: We go outside whenever weather permits. If the temperature feels like 20 degrees or above, students should wear appropriate clothing for outdoor participation.
Program Start and End Dates:
The EDP begins on the first day of school, August 27, 2025.
The before-school program operates until the last day of school (Day 180).
The after-school program operates until the last full day of school (Day 179) and will **not** be available on the final day of school.
Half Days and Closures:
After School Program Available on Half Days: September 25, December 4, January 16, March 5, March 19, and May 8. Advance sign-up will be required for these dates and additional charges will be applied (more information to come). A home lunch will be required on half days.
After School Program Closed on Half Days: September 25, November 26, December 4, and March 26.
EDP Closed: The EDP will be closed on holidays, snow days, vacation days, and all other non-school days.
Inclement Weather Closures:
If there is a delayed opening due to inclement weather, the before-school program will be closed.
If there is an early release due to inclement weather, the after-school program will be closed.
Behavioral Information:
Behavioral Expectations: All enrolled children are expected to follow our behavioral policies and expectations and are treated without discrimination.
Alignment with School Policies: The Extended Day Program follows the Holland Elementary School discipline code and behavior expectations as outlined in the Holland Elementary School Student/Family Handbook 2024-2025. Students are expected to be respectful to staff and other students at all times.
Communication: Parents will be notified via email or phone call from the program coordinator or principal if a student's behavior is unsafe, disrespectful, or disruptive to the program.
Partnership: We believe in working together with parents/guardians to ensure a safe and positive experience for your child.
Behavioral Procedure for Consistent Non-Compliance:
If a child consistently does not meet the behavioral expectations, the following procedure will be followed:
1. Verbal warning to the child and parent.
2. Written warning to the child and parent.
3. Removal from the program for the remainder of the year.
Note: This procedure may be adjusted based on the severity of the incident. In cases of dangerous or destructive behavior, a child may be asked not to return to the program without following the above steps.
Financial Information:
Tuition:
First child: $6.00 per hour (or any part of an hour).
Each additional child from the same household: $2.00 per hour (or any part of an hour).
Field Trips: Families will cover any additional field trip costs per student when they sign up.
Hourly Definition: An hour is defined as 60 minutes or any portion of 60 minutes that care is provided.
Billing for Partial Hours:
Before School: If your child is signed in before 7:15 am, you will be charged for 2 hours that day.
After School: If your child is signed out after 4:00 pm, you will be charged for 2 hours that day.
Late Pick-up Fee: Parents who pick up their child after 5:00 pm will be charged a fee of $50.00. No exceptions. If this occurs more than once, your child will not be permitted to continue in the program.
Half Day Billing: Half days start at noon and end promptly at 5:00 pm and will be billed accordingly.
Payments: Payments can be made online at: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx
Billing Statements: Billing statements will be emailed every Friday and are due by the following Friday. Paper copies are available upon request.
Late Payment Fee: A $5.00 late charge will be applied if payment is not received by the due date.
Payment Issues: If electronic payment cannot be processed, cash payment may be requested.
Attendance Policy for Unpaid Bills: If a bill is not paid by Friday, your child/children may not attend the program starting the following Monday. There will be no exceptions to this procedure.
Final Payment: The final payment of the year must be paid by the last day of school. Accounts must be kept current.
Outstanding Balances: If there is an outstanding balance at the end of the school year, your child/ren may not return to the program the next school year until the balance is resolved.
Tax ID:The HES Tax I.D. number will be provided upon request.
Student Schedules:
Schedule Changes: To ensure student safety, any daily change in schedule requires a note to your child's classroom teacher(s) or email to the main office. and an email to the Program Director: moranh@tantasqua.org.
Notification of Changes: You must communicate with the Extended Day Program regarding any changes to your child's normal dismissal routine.
Billing for Unnotified Absences: Daily staffing is based on attendance numbers. If we are not notified of a schedule change by noon that day, you may be charged for one hour of care even if the student does not attend.
Snack:
Children will have time for an after-school snack at 3:00 pm each day.
Snacks must be provided from home due to food allergies. Please include a drink; a refillable water bottle is recommended.
The after-school program will not provide snacks to children.
Electronic Devices:
Students are permitted to bring electronic devices to the program for safety reasons, but their use during the Extended Day Program is strictly prohibited.
All electronic devices must be turned off and stored in the child's backpack during program hours.
Visible or audible electronic devices during the program will be confiscated and must be claimed by a parent.
Holland Elementary School assumes no liability for lost or stolen items. Bringing electronic devices is done so at your own risk.

Action Plans for Medical Emergencies:
In the absence of a school nurse during Extended Day Program hours, staff are trained to respond to medical situations. Please note the following action plans.
Allergic Reaction:
Possible Symptoms: Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, rash, hives, itching, frequent throat clearing, swelling of any body part.
Action (Known Allergy): Call 911 immediately. Assist the child in using their prescribed Epi-Pen if available. Then, notify parents.
Action (Unknown Allergy): If rash/hives or other symptoms are noted, have the child wash the affected area, apply ice, and notify the parent. Call 911 if symptoms worsen or if there are signs of difficulty breathing.
Asthma:
Symptoms: Difficulty breathing, wheezing, frequent cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness.
Action: If the child has their inhaler, allow them to use it and offer rest and a cold drink. If symptoms do not improve within five (5) minutes, call 911, then notify the parent. If no inhaler is available, notify parents and call 911 if symptoms worsen.
Diabetes (Low Blood Sugar Reaction):
Symptoms: Hunger, sweating, pallor, feeling shaky, headache.
Action: Have the child test their blood glucose level and record the number. Follow their Individual Health Care Plan. Call parents to inform them of symptoms. **If a student becomes unconscious due to low blood sugar, call 911 immediately.
Seizure:
Symptoms: Altered consciousness, involuntary muscle stiffness or jerking movements, drooling, foaming at the mouth, temporary halt in breathing, loss of bladder control.
Action: Protect the child from falling or hitting their head. Clear the area around the student and remove other students. Never put anything into the child's mouth and do not attempt to restrict movements. Time the seizure. Call 911 immediately. Notify the guardian.
Parental Consent and Emergency Procedures:
I understand that no school nurse is available during the Extended Day Program. I give staff permission to administer basic first aid to my child in case of an accident or serious illness. I understand the Program will contact a parent/legal guardian. If the Program is unable to reach either parent/legal guardian, I understand the Program will call for emergency medical services (911).
