On April 4th, boys and men from all over our Parish had an amazing opportunity to come together for a Tenor/Bass Choir Day at Southeastern Louisiana University! They were led by Mr. Robert T. Gibson, an incredible conductor and composer from Texas. If you are a singer, it is never too late to join a choir!
A HUGE congratulations goes out to our HHMS Advanced Choir for earning ALL 1's, a perfect score, at their Parish Choral Assessment today!!! This was the first time since before COVID that scores like this have been earned for us. We are SO proud of our Singing Tors!!!
What an incredible performance from each of our students in the Black History Month program today!! It was one of the best ones put on yet. A huge congratulations goes out to Piper Adams and MaKaylee Soley for an incredible performance at the LMEA All-State Choir conference over the weekend!! They worked so hard through hours of rehearsals and did such a beautiful job. MaKaylee was even selected to sing a small group solo for one of the songs!
At the end of the conference, Mrs. Elizabeth Robbins was awarded the first Barbara C. Butler Award of Excellence for running a quality high school choral music program serving a historically disadvantaged population. This award is recognized on a state level!
We also wanted to give a special thanks to our principal, Mr. Michael Kyles, who came out to support our HHMS students and staff for this event! We are so proud.

It was such a powerful night of music!

Our HHMS Advanced Choir had an incredible opportunity to sing with Southeastern Louisiana University, Ponchatoula High School, and Woodlawn High School at their Unity Concert Monday night, and did an AMAZING job!! The students had so much fun showcasing their own music and hearing phenomenal performances from the other schools as well. Several people in the audience said that it was the best that they’ve ever heard them sing. We are SO proud of them!!
On Tuesday, Mrs. Robbins’ Advanced Choir had the Choir Director from Southeastern Louisiana University (Dr. Frances Fonza) come and do some amazing work with them in preparation for their upcoming Unity Concert with Southeastern! The students had a such a blast and learned so much from her in such a short period of time. Dr. Fonza shared that “The students were such hard workers!” You won’t want to miss their collaborative concert with Southeastern and Ponchatoula High at FBC of Hammond on March 11th at 7:30pm!
This Saturday, 17 of our HHMS students auditioned and made it to the District level of Honor Choir, which competed across both Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes! Congratulations to Jessica Bluain, Lilyana Brocato, Gabrielle Burkel, Destiny Burton, Joanell Chrissa, Breezy Garcia, Trinity Harris, Samia Holliday, Nia James, Brenya Klee, Aniyah Lane, Janiyah Lizana, Louis Mangiaracina, Ashley Ramirez, Bryce Troxclair, Thomas Waguespack, and Hailey White. 11 of those students also qualified for the All-State level and will be moving on to the 2nd round of auditions! We are so proud of our Singing Tors!!

Save the date! The HHMS Singing Tors are excited to share their Spring choir concert with you titled "The Circle of Life" on Saturday, April 29th at 4:00 P.M. in the HHMS auditorium. This event will include music from Black History Month, The Lion King, The Greatest Showman, famous folk songs, foreign languages, and much more! It will not only showcase our Beginning and Advanced Choirs, but also some Senior Spotlight solos from our graduating seniors.
Congratulations to our HHMS Advanced Choir students on a beautiful job well done at the District Choral Assessment for both St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes!! They scored a rating of "Excellent" on both their stage performances and their sight-reading assessments, and we are so proud of their hard work. Are you interested in trying out for the Advanced Choir next year? Anyone who has had at least 1 year of choir experience and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is eligible. The Advanced Choir will have many performance opportunities such as singing the National Anthem at the Homecoming Game, Christmas caroling field trips for various events, performing at school board meetings, competing in the Parish and District Assessments for the chance to win a trophy, three Choir concerts throughout the year, and much more! If you are interested, record yourself singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" a cappella and email it to Mrs. Elizabeth Robbins (elizabeth.robbins2@tangischools.org) by Friday, March 24th.
