IF YOU GET A MESSAGE THAT SAYS THERE ARE NO MORE SEATS AVAILABLE AT THE LAUNCH TRAININGS...
The LAUNCH Office did not anticipate the volume of students enrolled in REU programs this summer. There is not currently adequate space to facilitate all students in the training sessions originally scheduled.
If you have not already RSVP'd and secured your spot for the trainings, you will need to wait until LAUNCH coordinates additional trainings next week. Information on these dates and locations are forthcoming. Check the LAUNCH website for updates, as these trainings are not provided by the College of Engineering.
It is your responsibility as participants in the S-REU program to fulfill training compliance requirements. Failure to do so is grounds for a student's removal in the S-REU program and the forfeiture of any stipend payments.
The following trainings are required of all REU students:
Responsible Conduct for Research
General Lab Safety Training
Introduction to Laboratory Safety Training (online – course #2114106)
Hazard Communication Training (online – course #11020)
(Department Specific) Working Safely with Cryogenics (online – course #211228)
Radiological Safety Training
Title IX Training

HELPFUL INFO FOR BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
We will have a great orientation the first day of the program that will go over everything you need to know about the program and things to know while you are here. However, here are some resources and great things to ahead of time.
Customers who do not currently have a permit but want to park for the summer should purchase a lot 100 permit and park according to the Break & Summer Parking Map. Permit prices are prorated on a weekly basis. We recommend purchasing the permit about a week before you need it to get the best price and still allow time for shipping. Permits must be purchased online.
Break Parking
During designated breaks (not summer), all permits, including Night permits are valid all day in the areas highlighted on the Break & Summer Parking Map.
ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE ADVISED OF THE TWO CAMPUS EVENTS THAT WILL IMPACT TRAFFIC AND PARKING THIS SUMMER:
June 8, 2024 | Mexico vs. Brazil | 7:30 PM | Kyle Field
June 15, 2024 | George Strait | 6:00 PM | Kyle Field
These events are considered "game days" and will impact most all lots on campus. Consult TAMU Transportation to see if your lot is designated as event parking and take the necessary steps to avoid ticketing or towing.
Summer Meals
Summer meal plans can be purchased here.
Dress Code
Unless your faculty states otherwise, students are expected to dress in a business casual manner and in accordance to all PPE requirements. The poster session is business casual.
Haas Hall Key Pick-up
Students can pick up their keys as early as 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 25th. Keys will be located at the service desk in Hullabaloo Hall located next to Haas Hall. Later that afternoon, ResLife will have a staffer available to help and answer any questions that you have for them.
Travel Reimbursement
Students can begin filing their travel reimbursements now with this form. All reimbursements should be turned in by June 5th. Only one submission should be provided, so ensure that you have all of your documentation ready. Those traveling by car need to calculate the distance from their home institution to TAMU and multiply it by two.

TAMU Campus Info and Haas Hall Resident's Package
Residence Life sent over several documents that may be useful to incoming students that are not familiar with College Station and our campus. They are located in a folder on the shared drive here. As they send more information throughout the summer, I will add it to the Drive.

Volunteer Needed for Orientation
I am looking for one volunteer to help coordinate orientation. This is a simple way to give back to your program! This largely entails running the monitor and navigating through the slide deck as we progress through the material. If you feel inclined to help, reach out to me at emwilliams@tamu.edu.
I will add more to this thread as questions arise - keep checking back!
If you're receiving an error to access anything in our Google apps, you're probably not logged in with your TAMU NetID! You shouldn't have to ask for access...

UPDATED TRAINING PASSWORDS AND MORE
The Doc with passwords that LAUNCH attached to this email is located HERE!
*Summer REU students are NOT required to participate in LAUNCH's poster session. The College of Engineering hosts its own and that is the one that students are required to attend/present.
Students are encouraged to attend if they have never been to a poster session. Since it occurs before our own, it is a good way to see how other researchers present their material to faculty.

Do yourself a favor and do it now so that you don't have to worry about it. DON'T MISS IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALWAYS CHECK THE HOMEPAGE FOR UPDATES AND NEWS
There are quite a few students that have not accepted their Terms of Use and updated their location in Howdy. This needs to be completed by the close of business today. We have already registered everyone that has completed this step. This is a time-intensive task and we ask that you do this in a timely manner so that we can keep things rolling with administrative tasks on the backend of the program.
If you need directions as to how to complete these tasks, look on the May 3rd update that has the Drive link posted. There are step-by-step guides for each step.
The program's homepage (this one you're reading now) is the primary way we communicate with you. Rather than sending multiple emails, sometimes many per day as we gear up to begin the program, we found it more expedient and desirable
to use this as a means of delivering information. However, it only works if you check in and see what's happening. Please make it a habit to check the homepage regularly. When the program starts, updates will also be posted to the Google Classroom.
Takeaways:
Update your location and accept your Terms of Use in Howdy
Go to the housing and email Sheet and ensure that yours is listed correctly
Check this homepage often!

SATURDAY UPDATE
Do not forget to read the updates over the last couple of days - they are important!
If you're an early bird and want to knock out some of your online training, remember that the password for Lab Safety Training will change on Monday. I will likely not get the new password until the program starts, so this is a great time to utilize your free time if you have it. Directions below:
Listed in bold print below are the TAMU Environmental Health and Safety Laboratory courses that can be taken through the External Gateway.
When logging into the External Gateway, please make sure that you use your TAMU email address, so that you get credit for taking the course in BioRAFT. The External Gateway is for Non-Texas A&M University Employees.

HERE ARE SOME ANSWERS TO SOME FAQs:
Lots of emails are rolling in and I wanted to answer a few of the most frequently asked right here to clear any unresolved questions you may have. I promise, if you look through the site, 99% of what you're wondering about is found here :)
Are the rooms private? I see that Haas Hall is double-occupancy, but you told me we have private rooms.
Yes! Even though Haas is double-occupancy, only one student will be assigned per room.
What about parking?
Parking is not provided by the program. If you wish to purchase parking, you will need to contact our Transportation Office and purchase either a summer parking pass or what's called a "Camp Pass," depending on which lot is preferable to where you want to be. You will purchase this through your Howdy portal.
Are summer meal plans available?
Yes! Although not included as part of the USRG program, summer meal plans are available through University Dining.
REMEMBER:
By May 1st (but, really... as soon as possible to ensure things like housing!)
Submit all required enrollment documents
TAMU Students - update your T&C and location in Howdy
Set up TAMU email
For quick questions and answers, post them to Padlet! Either another student or I can answer there as well.

STUDENT HEALTH & SAFETY
The health and safety of our students are our priorities above all else. You can visit the university's emergency preparedness resource site to learn ways to protect yourself in the event of an emergency and understand the tools and resources on campus to help you should you need them. Among the many resources that the university provides, we would like to make you aware of several highly beneficial to you as visiting Aggies.
CODE MAROON: Code Maroon is an emergency notification system that alerts your phone in the event of an active threat to campus. You must enroll to receive these notifications. They are tested routinely at designated times posted on the website.
BLUE EMERGENCY PHONES: There are blue light phones located throughout the Texas A&M campus. These phones are distinguished by the 12-foot pole with the blue light on top and "Police Help" written on the front and sides.
In an emergency, simply open the door on the weatherproof box and press the red button. The University Police dispatcher will immediately know your exact location. Talk directly into the speaker in the center of the phone. A map of the blue phones can be found here.
CORPS ESCORT: The Corps of Cadets Guard Room Escort Program provides a free Corps escort service to Texas A&M students, faculty and staff. When Guard Room operations are conducted, members of the campus community can request a Corps escort on weekdays from 5pm to 7am and 24 hours a day on weekends. The Guard Room is closed on holidays and during final exams. To request a Corps escort, call the Guard Room at 979-845-6789. This number can also be found on the back of your student ID. A member of the Corps of Cadets will meet the person requesting the escort and walk with him/her to on-campus locations on main campus and up to West Campus Garage.
