Because Gamma is a web-based platform, it is available through any browser you choose. It is also available to access through your preferred browser on both computers and mobile devices. To make this process even easier, there is also a mobile app available on macOS and Windows. Just make sure you have a stable connection to the internet and visit Gamma.app.
Here you will have the option to press "Login" or "Start for free". If you already have an account and are just here to learn the best way to use Gamma, go ahead and login, of not, click "Start for free". This will prompt you to add your email to create a free account and may as you what you are using Gamma for, so that they can tailor the experience accordingly.
This will bring you to this page and ask how you would like to create a presentation. The options are "Paste in text", "Generate", or "Import file or URL":
"Paste in text" will allow you to paste in previously gathered information, such as sources, research, or even class notes.
"Generate" will allow you to prompt the AI to create a presentation about a topic from scratch.
"Import file or URL" will allow you to enhance previously existing presentations.
Creating a presentation
Selecting the "Generate" option is the quickest way to create a presentation. It will allow you to prompt Gamma with what you want your presentation to be about. After you tell Gamma what you want, it will let you choose a theme and source of images, and then it will generate your presentation.
Remember that this gathered information is helpful, but you will need to find sources to add later to ensure proper citation. It is important to remember that the generate option will create a presentation solely on a prompt, so its important to check both the information you give it and the information it generates.
Includes Card-by-Card Control
The "Paste in text" option will allow you to paste information you have already gathered in order to add it to your work. First choose if you want to make a presentation, webpage, document, or social. Once you paste in your information, choose what you want Gamma to do with this content. the options are, "Generate from notes or an outline", "Summarize long text or document", or "Preserve this exact text".
The generate option will keep the main ideas of your information while adding or taking away in order to create an engaging presentation, the summarize option will keep the main ideas intact but edit accordingly to fit presentation format, and the preservation option will use your added text the exact way you provide it.
Card-by-card control is an option that is available when the paste option is selected. This option allows you to choose exactly what you want to add on each card, rather than letting Gamma decide where to group information.
To use this, all you have to do is add three dashes between each section like this:
---
Once you have added those 3 dashes, this will allow Gamma to recognize the break and create a separate slide.
First, select how to import your previous presentation. Once you have imported the presentation of your choice, you have two options. Either you can select "Transform content" or "Visual import".
The transform option will take the previous information and create a redesigned slideshow with new layouts and even images, whereas the visual import option will preserve your layout while 'polishing' the end result.
After selecting your desired method, you will be prompted to choose a theme. Make sure to choose one that matches your personal style or the presentation's content! After you select your theme, your new, or redesigned presentation will be created.
Regardless of what you choose, you will be sent to a page called "Prompt Editor". Here the interface is very easy to follow. You will be asked how much text you want per card, with the option of brief, medium, and detailed. Next you can edit the audience and tone of your presentation to match the assignment exactly. One note here is that these are already generated based off of the content, but you can easily edit this by clicking the text box and adding the information you prefer.
You are also able to edit the source of images, for example if you prefer them to be AI generate or stock photos and finally have a spot for additional details you would like the generator to add. This step focuses on tailoring the presentation to your audience.
If you utilized the Import file or URL option, then this also presents you with a chance to reorder your previous slides.
This is the most important step of using Gamma to ensure academic success. Make sure you review every slide that is generated or revised by Gamma to ensure that the proper citations are in place. Gamma makes editing extremely simple.
First, review what information you would like to edit, and then select the text box and type away! Each box of text, image, or symbol Gamma generates is editable, so feel free to anything at all. You can reorder sections of text, images, or even whole slides just by clicking and dragging. This makes it easier than ever to ensure your slides are exactly how you want them to be and reflect the information appropriately.
Use strong credible sources like academic journals, studies, or articles
Cite every claim, quote or image
Even if the image is generated by Gamma
Use in-text citations
Always include a works cited or references slide
Once your slideshow is edited and you are ready to submit it, locate the "Share" button on the top right portion of the screen. This will give you options to share the presentation by copying the link or export it. If you choose to copy the link, you can share it anyway you like, including email, or even commonly used education platforms like Canvas, all you have to do is paste the link into its designated submission area. if you choose to export it, you can download it as a PDF, PowerPoint, Google Slides, or a series of PNG images.
Keep in mind that the free version of this platform limits the number of tokens or credits you can use per month. So frequently check the number of credits you have on the top right of the home page!
Here are different ways you can use these tokens:
- Create with AI: 40 credits per gamma you create.
- Add card with AI: 5 credits per card you create.
- Chat with AI: 10 credits per AI suggestion (e.g. finding images, rewriting content). You are not charged for errors or clarifications.
- AI images: 10 credits per image prompt.
- Continue with AI: 2 credits each time you use /continue or +++
(Gamma.app)
This can be changed by using one of the paid options, for 8 or 15 dollars a month
Be specific with your phrasing in the prompt
Be mindful that any information you enter as being factual will be framed as being true in the presentation itself. This can be especially harmful when using the generate option, as Gamma will generate information that supports the claims you make
Don't be afraid to change the tone and audience of your presentation to match your assignment
