Prunus caroliniana

They are evergreen trees that are Texas native and can be found in the southeast. This tree is highly toxic to livestock! The leaves contain high levels of hydrocyanic (or prussic) acid, especially after a heavy frost or a drought that withers the leaves and concentrates the poison.
