Berry College: B.S. 2016-2020
Major: Biology
Minors: One Health, Chemistry
As an undergraduate I was able to work as a Teaching Assistant for a wide range of Biology courses including: Principles of Cell Biology, Zoology, Biological Diversity, Parasitology, Immunology, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Tropical Biodiversity and Conservation.
I also worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant for three years working in a parasitology, public health, and immunology lab, researching Trypanosoma cruzi in mammals and invertebrates.
I had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad course to Roatan, Honduras in 2018 where I earned my Open Water SCUBA certification and participated in coral restoration through coral tree creation and maintenance.
In the summer of 2019 I had the opportuntiy to work as a summer researcher at the Ocean Research and Conservation Association (ORCA) in Fort Pierce, Florida.
As a summer researcher I worked on an independent research project investigating the levels of harmful Microcystin in produce being sold in Florida, that was irrigated using potentially contaminated water.
I also assisted in research focusing on the effects of microplastics in different species of fishes, and the creation of living shorelines using oyster beds to assist conservation of the Indian River Lagoon.
I completed multiple outreach programs while at ORCA. This included One Health outreach to inform local physicians about the risks of red algae exposure in their communities. I also assisted in Citizen Science projects to help with coastline cleanup and introducing concepts of ecotoxicology to junior high and high school students.
