The 203 Collection is a collaborative digital archive created by students in ENGL 203: Writing About Literature and Cultural Memory in Media. It serves as a repository to store and share concepts, ideas, artifacts, and resources connected to our study of William Shakespeare, Jonathan Swift, Jane Austen, and Robert Louis Stevenson. The archive traces how stories are remembered, transformed, and transmitted across time; it also considers how medium, audience, and artistic license negotiate the ways in which we remember the past. Guided by Marshall McLuhan’s idea that “the medium is the message,” our collection highlights how meaning shifts when texts move between forms such as print, performance, and visual art. As both repository and workspace, the archive encourages shared engagement with texts and media in order to record how cultural memory is collectively explored, interpreted, and reimagined.
