Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, I am a first-generation American, high school graduate, and college attendant/graduate. In 2018, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University, and an undergraduate certificate in gender, race and ethnic politics. I have an interest in education policy, especially involving inequalities in educational attainment for marginalized groups. This interest led me to the Bush School of Government & Public Service to pursue a Master of Public Service & Administration with concentrations in analytical methods and education policy. After graduation, I hope to work with policymakers and advocacy groups on important equity and education issues.
Throughout my academic career, I have been honored with several distinctions, such as being a five-time President’s Scholar recipient; earning a pre-doctoral fellowship with the Association for Education Finance and Policy; being granted a scholarship to study immigration policy in a study abroad program with the Centre International de Formation Européenne; and being awarded by the University of Texas as a member of the All-Texas Academic Team, presented annually to college students nominated by faculty for outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership, and expression.
Beyond academics, I have a passion for music, and have played percussion and vocals since I was in grade school. In my personal life I have written, composed, and played music by myself and with friends for several years. Throughout college I have continued my musical education through both private lessons and being a member of the Texas A&M University choirs the Singing Cadets and Century Singers. In 2015, I began to perform with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, and in December of 2018 was asked to perform the national anthem at my graduation ceremony. Through various music groups, I have also been able to travel abroad and was notably able to meet several world leaders, including five former United States Presidents. In December of 2018, I had the honor of performing at the internment services of the Bush School’s namesake, President George H. W. Bush.
