Howdy, preppers! This week is all about focus. Specifically, focused practice after the Barbri sim and some focused practice in Themis before PE2 and the 2-day sim.
By the end of this week, Barbri preppers should have completed the Simulated MBE and started "focused practice" in Adaptibar. See last week's blog post for extensive info about the why and how of focused practice. The SImMBE is the single most important assignment in the entire Barbri course, so take it seriously. Your score is less important than the facts that you completed the Sim and completed it this week; the results will identify your weaknesses, and completing the Sim this week will give you time to turn those weaknesses into strengths.
After the Sim, Barbri has a full-day video review of all the Sim questions, broken down by topic and question (e.g., a Civ Pro video reviews all the Civ Prop questions). You don't necessarily have to watch every minute of every video. If you scored below average on a particular subject, then I suggest watching the entire video for that topic; you need the reinforcement. If you scored average or above average, then watch the video for the questions you missed (the videos contain navigation links that make is easy to jump from question to question). Then start your focused practice in Adaptibar. If you don't have Adaptibar yet, now is the time to get it; you can still get your money's worth and thensome by exam day.
Barbri will transition to the essay-only topics after the Sim.
The second MBE and MEE practice exams are coming up next week in Themis (55 MCQs, 4 essays; Evidence, Crim Law/Pro, Constitutional Law, and Civil Procedure). We are not hosting this one on campus—but feel free to come to campus and take PE2 in an empty classroom.
The full-on 2-day simulated exam is the week after that. We will host the exam on campus (rooms TBD) on July 8 & 9 (and 10, for time-accommodated students). Accommodated students will begin at 8:30am each day; regular-time students will begin at 9am. We'll provide lunch on July 8 & 9. Fill out this form before noon on July 2 to make your lunch selections.
Meanwhile--this week after completing the Con Law modules--Themis preppers should complete either "Study Aid 1" in Adaptibar (see last week's blog for how-to) or a 100-question, all-topics test in QBank (turn off "Tutor" and select "Unused," all "Subjects and Chapters," and 100 question):
Review the results (Adaptibar: Performance>Exam Results; QBank: Previous Tests>Analysis) and do some focused practice on the weaker subtopics as described in last week's blog. Becasue this was a 100-question set (vs. the 200-questions Barbri Sim), "heavily tested" is three or more questions. "Weakness" is 50% or less correct (maybe 60% or less if you did well on the set).
I'm suggesting this 100-question set because otherwise you won't have extensive data to identify your weaknesses until after the 2-day sim in July--and that's getting uncomfortably close to the real exam (this is one of the downsides to Themis, IMO).
Q: On the MPTs, are the prompts on the computer or hardcopy? Do we get both MPTs simultaneously? Do we get scratch paper?
A: The MPT prompts are distributed in paper booklets. You receive both booklets simultaneously at the beginning of the session. (Same for the essays; you receive a booklet containing all 6 prompts.) You can mark in the booklets, but you cannot unstaple them or tear pages out. The booklets contain a couple of blank pages at the end for notes and scratch paper, but you can't pull those out, either.
The winners of this week's incentive drawings are Lindsey Graham and Ben Whisman. Congratulations!
By 10pm on June 29, complete 59.5% of Barbri (including the SimMBE) or 56.% of Themis AND 1030 questions in Adaptibar or QBank.
Laptop registration is open now and closes on July 11 at 5pm; the cost is $90 (the extended deadline is July 19, subject to a $75 late fee). You should have received an email from the Texas BLE with instructions for registering your laptop. Read more at https://ble.texas.gov/laptop-application.
That's all for this week. As ever, if you have questions or need talked back from the ledge, email or call me or Prof. Deutsch. Our contact info is on this blog's home page. Or you can reach us on GroupMe.
