All new teachers are working towards "certification"

The compulsory standards for this are administered by the Education Council https://educationcouncil.org.nz/content/our-code-our-standards

Provisionally certificated teachers must show evidence of the standards in their teaching and also that they have been part of an ongoing programme of support.

What does the Education Council say about evidence needed over the 2 years of provisional certification

• Evidence for certification is linked to appraisal
• There needs to be a portfolio of evidence showing growth
• The evidence already exists, happening naturally through conversations, documentation, notes, mindmaps, photos, professional discussions, guidance, observations and feedback
• The emphasis needs to be on improvement and progress
• ERO audits the level of support and induction processes in the school using PCT evidence from the last 12 months prior to their visit

Remember to take photos of lesson plans, whiteboard instructions, student work and student activities etc as part of your evidence. A picture tells 1000 words. Video as evidence too especially of co-curricula activities you are involved with.

In an appraisal folder or portfolio, the PCT will also include evidence that shows they have had the induction and mentoring programme. This will include mentoring meeting notes, as well as evidence of more observations, and formal discussions than a fully certificated teacher and the summary report that verifies PCT have met all the Standards for the Teaching Profession (Education Council)
