The AERO Math Specialists in International Schools (MSIS) and Math Fellows in International Schools (MFIS) cohorts are a series of five professional development institutes for teachers of mathematics, designed to deepen understanding of research supported practice in instruction and assessment of mathematics. The sessions are sequenced to build not only the conceptual progressions of topics in math, but to develop expertise in the development of young mathematicians and their thinking. Emphasis on the standards, the mathematical practices and how students learn the content is a central component of the cohorts. By working with a cohort of professional peers, teachers gain insight into their own thinking, planning, lesson creation and assessment practices.
The cohorts will be held at The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) during the 2018-2020 school years.
Upon completion of the five institutes, participants will be awarded a Math Specialist or Fellow Certificate from Project AERO, Office of Overseas Schools.
“The MFIS experience is the best PD I’ve ever had.”
