Research shows that memorizing facts and procedures isn't enough for long-term math success. Students need strong number sense to build a foundation for mathematical understanding. Number sense develops gradually as a result of exploring numbers, visualizing them in a variety of contexts, and relating them in ways that are not limited to traditional algorithms. We want our young mathematicians to be flexible thinkers and confident problem solvers. Our core math curriculum in Tahoma for K-5 is Illustrative Mathematics.
