Resonant Jazz Ensemble
Graded Course. Admission by audition for skilled solo vocalists, ages 14-18. Focus is on excellence that brings God glory and inspires people. Students must have a strong ear to harmonize, show improvisation flexibility in the voice and advance sight-reading skills. Music has 5 or more parts (SSAATTBB). Students sing solo in class weekly. Literature is contrasting between contemporary jazz arrangements, worship songs, ballads, and show tunes. Music is often a cappella or accompanied by the jazz band or a small jazz combo. Students will be required to complete assignments and sing in solo evaluations for class grades. Great opportunity for jazz piano accompaniment and for students to also play in a jazz combo.
