Our process for learning and designing a new framework for South West Hospital and Health Services Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services.
OCT 2022
STARTING WITH WHAT WE KNOW
We are building on commitments already made through joint planning with WQPHN and other community and service partners.
We know SWHHS MHAOD needs to...
Strengthen integration between existing services using available and existing resources more effectively and complements/ builds or informs on existing service integration projects and initiatives within the service
Improve access, experiences and outcomes with care responses that improve community and consumer experiences in accessing care for mental health conditions, alcohol and substance use
Embed evaluation by monitor and evaluate through pre-defined quality indicators
Partner more effectively and respond to SWHHS’ agenda of better service integration in partnership with local primary and community service providers

PLANTING 3 SEEDS TO START A CONVERSATION
Community is where wellbeing is created and protected. Most care for people happens within community and households.
Building future community wellbeing through demonstration and commitment to co-production
Working with community, between services and with sector partners in new and different ways
Listening to community
As part of our commitment to learning what works with community, we will be reaching out to a range of staff, community members, service partners and service stakeholders across the South West and asking them to have a conversation about what these three seeds mean to them.
For each of the 3 seeds we are asking the following questions...
What is already working well in your community?
If we planted this seed, what would you like it to grow into?
What might stop this idea from growing?
What is one simple thing we can make happen tomorrow?
We created a 3 Seeds Activity Pack offering three ways to support a conversation. You are welcome to download the pack to support a conversation in your team, community, group — or just to reflect on your own.
Sharing stories
People from communities in the South West are invited to share a story or idea related to your experience of mental health, alcohol and other drugs.
We are using an app called VideoAsk to capture stories.
People can add their story via phone or on a computer. We have restricted responses to voicemail or text to preserve people's anonymity. An internet connection is required to submit a story.
Alternatively you can email us your story directly

GATHERING INSPIRATION & DRAFTING A FRAMEWORK
TACSI will gather direction from all the good work done so far by WQPHN and other government, community and service partners in the mental health, alcohol and other drug sector — and inspiration from other regional and remote services and integrated frameworks to inform the Co-design Group.
TACSI will work with SWHHS MHAOD and the Project Stewards to create a draft framework for how SWHHS Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services will work with community and partners to deliver better outcomes in the South West.
JAN–FEB 2023
REFINING THE FRAMEWORK TOGETHER
A Co-design Group of 8–12 people will be formed through extensive invitations across the South West to consumers, carers, SWHHS professionals and partners. The Co-design Group will be made up from a majority of people with lived experience of Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services and will also include Carers, SWHHS Professionals and Service Partners.
The Co-design Group will meet to work through fundamental aspects of the draft framework including hot topics that lean into the complexity and constraints of the local context.
With TACSI's support and in collaboration with the Project Stewards, the Co-design Group will recommend a framework for how SWHHS Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services will work with community and partners to deliver better outcomes in the South West.
