In alignment with our school's commitment to the CyberMarvel and Be Internet Awesome frameworks, we encourage parents to actively partner with us in fostering safe and responsible digital habits at home.
1. Establish Clear Expectations: Just as you have rules for other aspects of your child's life, create clear expectations for technology use. Work together to establish boundaries on where, when, and what they can do online.
2. Create Tech-Free Zones and Times: Designate specific areas and moments in your home where everyone, including adults, "unplugs." This promotes face-to-face communication, physical activity, and a healthy balance between online and offline life. Consider a nightly family routine where all devices, including those belonging to parents, are placed in a central charging location, away from bedrooms.
3. Monitor and Engage: Stay involved in your child’s digital world. Encourage them to share the apps, games, and websites they enjoy. Use this as an opportunity to discuss online safety and respectful behavior, reinforcing the principles of being Internet Brave and Internet Kind.
4. Reinforce Responsibility: If your child forgets their device for school, please do not bring it in for them. This fosters personal responsibility, a key skill for digital citizenship.
5. Consider Google for Education's Privacy and Security: Our school utilises Google Workspace, including Gmail, Drive, and Docs. We encourage parents to review Google's official privacy and security information to understand how your child's data is protected within this ecosystem.
By consistently applying these tips, you can help your child become a confident, ethical, and responsible digital citizen.
